University of Cape Town MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program

The Mastercard Foundation has partnered with the University of Cape Town (UCT) to provide 338 scholarships over 10 years to academically talented yet economically disadvantaged students from Sub-Saharan Africa for study at UCT. For 2019 academic year, 50 scholarships opportunities are available (24 Undergraduate, 16 Honours and 10 Masters).

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cape Town, applicants must be:

  • Academically talented, must value learning and be driven to complete their education.
  • Economically disadvantaged and facing significant financial barriers to accessing education.
  • Committed to giving back to their own communities once studies are completed, to return to their home countries and take a leadership role in promoting social and economic improvement.
  • Future leaders committed to embracing ethical leadership to improve the lives of others.
  • Commitment to community service through previous and/or past engagements with community outreach activities
  • Citizens and residents of a Sub-Saharan African country.
  • Wanting to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level (Masters by research and coursework or research Masters, only). Honours applicants will be considered from 2016.
  • Applying to study in the fields of Commerce, Engineering and Built Environment, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law or Sciences at the University of Cape Town.
  • All prospective Scholars must first be admitted to the University of Cape Town to be considered for the Scholarship. Although each academic department has its own criteria, a minimum of 60% for the Honours, or equivalent degree is the overall academic criterion required for entry into the Masters’ degree.
  • Preference will be given to ‘first-generation’ students, i.e. those who are the first ones in their families to go to university.

The scholarships are considered to be full-cost and will include full cover for the following:

  • Visa costs
  • Transport costs to and from South Africa
  • Full tuition and international student fees
  • Full accommodation, subsistence and living expenses
  • Research costs as approved or recommended by UCT and the Foundation
  • Access to internship opportunities and cover of related costs
  • Medical aid

Apply: Heriot-Watt University Undergraduate Overseas Scholarship 2018

Heriot-Watt University offer a range of different scholarship programmes for international students to help 100% cover tuition fees or living costs. International (non-EU) applicants holding an offer for an eligible Undergraduate Degree Programme are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

Heriot-Watt University is a public university based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was established in 1821 as the world’s first mechanics’ institute. It has campuses in the Scottish Borders, Orkney, Dubai, and Putrajaya in Malaysia.

Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University. 

Scholarship Description:

  • Course Level:  Scholarships are available to pursue an undergraduate degree programme.

  • Scholarship Award: Successful Scholarships will benefit from a fee reduction in one of three categories:

  • Heriot-Watt Distinction Scholarships – 100% reduction (maximum of FIVE Scholarships in total)

    • Overseas (non-EU applicants) to eligible Undergraduate degree programmes.
    • Criteria is based on academic merit, but financial need will be taken into consideration for the higher value scholarships.
    • Applicants must have an offer of a place to study with Heriot-Watt University in the UK.
  • English Language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

2018 Windle Trust International Postgraduate Scholarships for Africans to study in UK

About the Scholarship:

Since 1988 we have supported over 1,000 students through our scholarships, around 600 students at postgraduate level and over 400 on undergraduate courses. In partnership with universities and various donors we provide scholarship opportunities to conflict affected students from Eastern and Central Africa at universities and colleges in the UK and Sudan.
We carefully select candidates of particular merit taking in to account not only academic ability but financial need, social disadvantage and those who have the potential and willingness to put their skills to use for the positive development of their communities.

Eligible Countries
We aim to enhance the knowledge, professional skills and capacity of refugees and others affected by conflict in South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda and Kenya, to be effective leaders and contribute to development in the communities in which they work in Africa. Many of those that we have supported are working in the public or private sectors, including international and national Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) as managers or practitioners in a wide range of sectors such as health, education, engineering, computing, communications, architecture and agriculture.

Bilateral Education Agreement (BAE) Scholarship Awards 2018/2019 for Nigerians to Study Abroad

The Bilateral Education Agreement (BAE) Scholarship Award 2018/2019 is now open. The Honorable minister of Education(HME) in Nigeria invites interested and qualified Nigerians to participate in the nomination interview for Bilateral Education Agreement (BAE) scholarship award for undergraduate and postgraduate studies abroad.

 

The BAE scholarship is for:

  • Undergraduate (UG) studies tenable in Russia, Morocco, Algeria, Serbia, Hungary, Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, Cuba, Romania, Ukraine, Japan, Macedonia; and
  • Postgraduate (PG) studies tenable in Russia (for those whose first degree were obtained from Russia, China, Hungary, Serbia, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, etc.

 

Field of study:

  • Undergraduate level Engineering, Geology, Agriculture, Sciences, Mathematics, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Sports, Law, Social Sciences, Biotechnology, Architecture, Medicine (Very limited), etc.
  • Postgraduate level (Masters degree and Ph.D) in all fields.

 

Eligibility

For Undergraduate:

  • All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of Five (5) distinctions (As&Bs) in the Senior Secondary School Certificate, WAEC (May/June) only in subject relevant to their field of study including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Certificates should not be more than two (2) years old (2016&2017).
  • Age limit is from 18 to 20 years.

For Postgraduate:

  • All applications for Postgraduate degree courses must hold a first degree with at least 2nd class upper division. The applicants who are previous recipients of Foreign Awards must have completed at least two (2) years post qualification or employment practice in Nigeria.
  • All applicants must have completed N.Y.S.C
  • Age limit is 35 years for Maters and 40 years for Ph.D. and only

o   N.Y.S.C discharge or exemption certificates only are accepted;

o   Evidence of readiness to be released by employer.

  • Applicants should be prepared to undertake a mandatory one-year foreign language course of the country of choice which will be the standard medium of instruction;

Australia Awards Scholarships 2018

Australia Awards Scholarships, formerly known as Australian Development Scholarships (ADS), provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly those countries located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.

Undergraduate or Postgraduate Programmes that are related to your country’s priority areas for development which are listed on the participating country profiles.

Australia Awards are not available for training in areas related to flying aircraft, nuclear technology or military training.

Citizens of one of the participating countries in Asia, Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East. See the complete list of participating countries.

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:

The scholarship benefits generally include: full tuition fees, return air travel, establishment allowance, contribution to living expenses (CLE), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), Introductory Academic Program (IAP), Pre-course English (PCE) fees, etc. See the complete list of benefits at the official website.

The scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory training.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to receive a Scholarship, applicants must:

a. be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing the Scholarship

b. be a citizen of a participating country (as listed on the Australia Awards website) and be residing in and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship

c. not be married, engaged to, or a de facto of a person who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency, at any time during the application, selection or mobilisation phases (note: residents of Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau with New Zealand citizenship are eligible but must apply for a Student visa (subclass 500) and not be current serving military personnel

d. not be a citizen of Australia, hold permanent residency in Australia or be applying for a visa to live in Australia permanently

e. not be applying for another long‐term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of Australia for twice the length of the total time that they were in Australia

f. have satisfied any specific criteria established by the Program Area or the government of the applicant’s country of citizenship (e.g. having worked a certain number of years in an appropriate sector)

g. be able to satisfy the admission requirements of the institution at which the award is to be undertaken

h. be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to hold a Student Visa.

i. Applicants must inform the Program Area of any connection or relationship to staff employed at Program Areas or with managing contractors so that the application may be properly and transparently managed.

Check the open and close dates for your country, and select your country of citizenship/residency from the list of participating countries for specific information on eligibility, priority areas and how to apply. Deadline varies per country. The deadline for most countries is 30 April 2018 except for Cambodia (April 15), Kiribati (tbc), Laos (March 23), Papua New Guinea (February 28), Vanuatu (March 31).
